Louisville,
KY- The Louisville Fire (2-1) are
back on the road as they make plans
to take on the Tennessee Valley Vipers
(0-3). The Fire and the Vipers will
face off on Saturday, April 18 in
Huntsville, AL. The game will be available
on the radio (93.9 FM The Ticket),
internet (visit www.louisvillefirefootball.com
to access the Nifty T.V. link), or
at Tailgaters on Floyd Street, where
there will be an official watch party.
The Fire are coming
off their first loss of the 2008 season,
falling 28-39 to Quad City. Despite
the outcome, the Fire displayed a
team effort on the offensive side
of the football. Lonnell Dewalt, Matt
Bassuener (28-14-1), and Demetrius
Forney all found their way into the
endzone as kicker Danny Kight posted
eight points with two field goals
and two completed extra points. Dewalt
was named Schutt Offensive Player
of the Game, while Forney was awarded
the U.S. Army Ironman honors. The
Fire defense was also active as Dominic
Ross, Brandon Register, and Brett
Maddox all completed tackles for a
loss, while Fire veteran Matt Forbes
tallied six solo tackles against the
Steamwheelers.
On Kight’s second field
goal he became the all-time career
leader in Fire history for field goals
made.
During the last meeting,
Louisville hosted Tennessee Valley
in Freedom Hall to wrap up the 2007
regular season. The Fire defeated
the Vipers 44-40.
Tennessee Valley continues
to struggle in the beginning of the
2008 season, holding a 0-3 record,
dropping several games by less than
a touchdown to South Georgia and Green
Bay. Their last game ended in a 47-62
loss to the Florida Firecats.
Despite the appearance
Louisville recognizes what lies ahead
for them this weekend.
“They’re a very hungry team. Tennessee
Valley will be the best athletic team
we’ve played all year. They’re better
than any of the other three teams
we’ve played previously and they’re
just as good if not better than any
of the other teams we play in the
future,” stated Fire Head Coach Tommy
Johnson.
The Fire (2-1) are in
a three way tie for second place in
the Midwest Division, a half game
behind Quad City. The Vipers (0-3)
are in fourth place in the South Division.
