Eviston started off the second quarter
by connecting with receiver Harry
Lewis for a touchdown. Horsemen kicker
Douglas Daniels had an unsuccessful
extra point attempt, making the score
7-6. Bassuener then connected with
Darrell and Lonnell Dewalt moving
the ball down the field. Bassuener
finally found Ricardo Lenhart in the
end zone for another fire touchdown.
Jerome Jones came out
of the gates and sacked Lexington’s
quarterback; Eviston and that gave
Louisville even more momentum. Lexington
was littered with a number of incomplete
passes, giving Louisville the upper
hand. Bassuener, back into the game,
threw a touchdown pass to Demetrius
Forney. Eviston was unsuccessful again
on finding an open man. Bassuener
on the other hand had Lenhart waiting
in the end zone, although Kight missed
the kick.
After halftime, Lexington
was ready to go and Eviston found
Jarod Rounzain making the score 27-19
after a successful kick. The Louisville
Fire offense answered when Bassuener
ran in the end zone, followed by another
successful kick by Kight. With 3 minutes
left in the third quarter, the Horsemen
were able to put points on the board
and keep the game interesting. Bassuener
threw to Forney who ran in for another
fire touchdown making the score 40-26.
At the beginning of
the fourth quarter Louisville’s Bassuener
found Nick Giordano and then ran the
ball in the end zone himself. Kight’s
kick was successful making the score
47-26. Eviston threw a pass intended
to Harry Lewis, but was intercepted
by Louisville’s Matt Forbes. Lexington’s
Earven Flowers responded and intercepted
Bassuener’s pass. Lexington was unable
to put anything together and lost
much of their momentum. On the next
possession Bassuener found Dewalt
in the end zone making the score 54-26.
Louisville Fire’s Keller
Speaks sacked Eviston in the fourth
quarter. Eviston answered by connecting
with Lewis on a touchdown pass. Bassuener
ended the game by running in the final
touchdown. The final score 61-34.
With the victory the
Fire moved into a three way tie for
first place in the Midwest Division
with the Horsemen and the Blizzard
of Green Bay. In addition to moving
into first, Fire owner Will Wolford
was able to keep his hair as he cut
Horsemen owner, Lennie Houses’ hair.
Louisville Fire is on
the road next week playing Quad City
Steamwheelers on May 3, 2008. The
Fire will return home on May 17 against
