FIRE ASSIGNED FOUR PLAYERS

Louisville, KY-The Louisville Fire Arena Football’s upcoming 2008 season looks even brighter with some additions to the roster: Jerome Jones (6’2, 235, Eastern Kentucky University), Brent Maddox (6’1, 300, Iona College), Neal Sharma (6’3, 215, C.W. Post), and Bruce Jones (6’1, 200, Fergus Falls College).

Jerome Jones will be playing his second season with the Fire and will make an impact on the teams’ success. During the 2007 season, Jones appeared in 18 games, in which he totaled 60.5 tackles, 45 unassisted tackles, as well as 31 assisted tackles. Jones also had 6 tackles for a loss of yards and scored one touchdown. Jones also was a candidate for the ADT Defensive Player of the Week in 2007 numerous times.

“Jones is a leader on the defensive side of the ball,” answered George Eskridge, Assistant Head Coach, when asked about Jones. “He is one of the hardest working players on the team and with his experience he has the ability to be one of the top linebackers in af2.”

Returning to the Louisville Fire for his second season is linebacker Brent Maddox. Maddox had a good run with the Fire last season and hopes to continue the success in 2008. Posting 6 points on the year Maddox, forced a fumble from the Fort Wayne Fusion last June running it back for a TD. Stepping onto the field for 11 of the 18 games Maddox contributed 5 tackles for a loss of 19 yards. Although his season was cut short due to injury he still ended the season with 9 solo and 14 assisted tackles.

“Having a player like Brent [Maddox] with experience will help solidify the defensive line,” said Eskridge.

Neal Sharma and Bruce Jones are two other players that were assigned and hope to make an impact this season. Neal Sharma, will fill a quarterback position this season along with rookie Bruce Jones playing at the receiver spot. Sharma, a QB standout from Long Island University C.W. Post also took the field last season for the Laredo Lobos. Jones last played at Fergus Falls College in Minnesota where he served as the Spartans starting quarterback, but will play wide receiver for the Fire.

“Sharma is a quarterback that can make all of the throws,” replied Eskridge when asked about Sharma.

“During the tryouts, Jones showed that he had raw talent that could be developed into a good arena football player,” stated Eskridge.
