FIRE ASSIGNED TWO PLAYERS TO 2008 ROSTER

Louisville, KY-The Louisville Fire’s Head Coach Tommy Johnson announced that Nick Roberts and Antonio Overstreet have been assigned to the Fire.

Roberts played for the Fire in 2007. Before getting injured Roberts played in three games, he was 7-of-9 passing for 67 yards and one touchdown; he also rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns. While playing for Gardner-Webb, Roberts accumulated 6,690 passing yards, 48 passing and 19 rushing touchdowns, and 1,182 rushing yards. Roberts was named to the First Team All-Big South Conference in 2003. In one game Roberts threw for 28 and 26 pass completions (twice); he ranks tied for fourth and eighth all-time in the Big South conference for pass completions. He also accumulated 428 (second in conference history) and 372 (ninth in conference history) total yards of offense in a single game.

“Nick Roberts is a pure athlete, he will be able to play several positions on the field,” stated Johnson. “Roberts is expected to battle for the quarterback position, but with his speed he is capable of playing wide receiver.”

Overstreet, a native of Baton Rouge, LA, will be making his debut in arenafootball2. He was a wide receiver at Southern University and in three seasons accumulated 61 receptions and averaged 12.7 yards per reception. During Overstreet’s first season with Southern, he had four kick returns for 110 yards. Overstreet played for the Rock River Raptors, in 2007. In 10 games he accumulated 48 rushing yards, 325 receiving yards, 29 receptions, and seven touchdowns. Overstreet also added 240 yards on 11 kick returns.

“Antonio Overstreet has Donte Hall athleticism, with very good hands,” answered Johnson when asked about Overstreet. “He will be a huge impact early on in the season.”
