FIRE
RAISE MORE THAN $3,000 FOR LOUISVILLE
Louisville, KY-The Louisville
Fire did not wear their normal black home
jerseys in tonight’s match-up against the
Albany Conquest. Instead they donned green
jerseys, courtesy of Moore Security, for
their annual jersey auction.
This year the players auctioned
off their jerseys for Louisville’s own non-profit
organization Brightside. Brightside was
launched in 1986 by Mayor Jerry Abramson,
with the idea of uniting people in clean
and green activities to beautify the city
and foster community pride. Brightside is
unique because it functions as a public/private
partnership, merging the resources of the
Metro government with those of private citizens.
All of the Brightside programs are run entirely
on privately donated dollars. For more information
about this program visit their website www.louisvilleky.gov/Brightside.
In previous years the auction
has raised thousands of dollars for local
charities and this year was no different.
The 2008 jersey auction was another tremendous
success raising $3430. St. Xavier alum Bernard
Jackson’s jersey went for the highest bid
of $575 followed by University of Louisville
alum Jerry Spencer whose jersey sold for
$300. Lonnell Dewalt’s jersey sold for $250,
while Tymere Zimmerman’s and Ricardo Lenhart’s
jerseys both went for $200.
The Fire’s next home game
will be its last of the season on Saturday,
July 26. They will take on division rivals
the Peoria Pirates, in a game that will
hopefully solidify their play-off birth.
That game will kick off in Freedom Hall
at 7:00 P.M.
