WAR
ON 64
Louisville, KY-The Louisville
Fire will take on the Lexington Horsemen
on April 26th, which is the first of three
epic battles during the 08’ season.
The two largest cities in
Kentucky separated by less than a hundred
miles will do battle once again. This time
they are playing for something a little
different, no it isn’t the “battle for the
Bluegrass” or the “Governor’s Cup,” this
time they are playing for the “War on Turf.”
The Lexington sports teams
have dominated the Louisville teams over
the past hundred years in both basketball
and football. This time instead of playing
on the legendary basketball courts or playing
in Papa John’s Stadium or Commonwealth Stadium;
8 players on both sides of the line will
battle on a field 50 yards long. A game
like this has never been played between
the two cities. Adding another rivalry will
only add more fuel to the fire already burning
beneath both cities.
This year so far the Lexington
Horsemen are 3-1 and on top of the Midwest
division, while the Louisville Fire is just
2-2 and plagued with injuries on both sides
of the ball.
Coach Tommy Johnson said that
he expects some of those players who haven’t
played in a couple weeks to be healthy and
ready to go for the game this weekend. “We
could use them; these past two weeks haven’t
gone very well for the team with two straight
losses.”
This will be the first of
many countless fames to come as these two
great cities add another storied rivalry
between them.
